respect watch are following the theocraticstalinist wing of the failed trot revolution and thier permatanned leader. no idea who they are though. sounds like labour activists.
and from dissensus:
"You could vote Lib Dem - they were against the war too.
Plus, they come with the added benefit of not believing that the Gulag was a good idea."
i was never a fan of dworkin but i admired her anger and bloody mindedness. what i disliked in her arguments was her holy victimhood. i always hated, and still do, the prioritising of victimhood in political argument, the "you can't question me because THIS happened to ME". the identity politics involved that created a hierarchy of historic victims that enshrined a system of who could talk about what, who could represent who, in left wing discourse and ultimately left much of that discourse paralysed, marginalised and irrelevant in the face of change. perhaps it was necessary, perhaps it still is but it stiffled debate.
dworkin was mostly misquoted, usually wrong, provocative and infuriating but admirable, especially compared with a contemporary feminism obsessed with breast implants.
anyway, here’s an entry from susie bright.
"I could feel the great loss in the messages I read this morning, from the old guard of feminist activists. Her death is going to be a horrible reminder to many that women’s place in society today is a cruel rebuttal to many of our dreams of women’s liberation. The media image of women today is pathetic; it’s Barbie on Steroids. “I Am Bimbo, Hear Me Roar! Tee-hee!”"
like susie bright i prefer valerie solaris, mad anarchist author of the SCUM manifesto (one of the best art manifestos of the 20th century) and failed killer of warhol. dworkin talked of arming women, solaris carried a gun.
my father brought me the SCUM manifesto when i was about 13. i don't know what that says about either of us.
in time for turn off tv week the universal tv turner-offer for use in pubs and other public places. incur the wrath of fellow pub goers by getting rid of the pissing ubiquitous football!
nominate places to be zapped by the anti-tv vigilantes
no what i want is a universal pub/restraunt volume control.
mike weatherley is an iron maiden fan all aboard the monorail of destruction.
veritas (killroy-silks lot) don't appear to have any candidates, but have a nice application form to become one, including a tick box for 'can you put up your own deposit'
